Madueke Explains Why He ‘Stole’ Chalobah’s Goal

Chelsea forward Noni Madueke has shed light on the moment that sparked both amusement and controversy during Chelsea’s recent 3-1 victory over Wolves. Madueke, ensuring Trevoh Chalobah’s goal-bound header crossed the line, scored the Blues’ third goal of the match—but not without some playful fallout.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Madueke admitted he apologized to Chalobah for what some might call “goal theft.” However, he clarified that his actions were purely instinctive as an attacker.

“It’s attacker’s instinct. I knew it was going over the line,” Madueke explained. He shared that Chalobah jokingly expressed frustration, saying, “‘No way you took my goal,’ but I told him, ‘You have to understand, this is what they pay me for.'”

Despite the light-hearted exchange, Madueke had nothing but praise for Chalobah’s performance. Returning to the Chelsea lineup, Chalobah impressed with his composure and defensive contributions.

“His performance was unbelievable,” Madueke said. “He showed great leadership, character, and bravery on the ball. He slotted in seamlessly, so I am delighted for him.”

Madueke also highlighted the significance of Chalobah’s return, alongside Reece James, as instrumental to Chelsea’s victory. Their presence brought a balance and solidity that had been missing during the team’s recent struggles.

For Madueke, the goal-stealing moment was just part of the story. The bigger takeaway was the team’s resilience and camaraderie—a key factor in what could be a turning point for Chelsea this season.
