Nicolas Jackson reportedly had to give up around £1.3 million to secure his loan move from Chelsea to Bayern Munich.

This is in total contrast with Uli Hoeneß’s claim that the striker and his representatives paid €3 million to make the transfer possible.

Hoeneß also said the obligation-to-buy clause only triggers if Jackson starts 40 games, while reports indicate it is linked more broadly to 40 appearances, although the exact terms remain unclear.

Jackson, who had been Chelsea’s leading striker for two seasons, fell down the pecking order after the arrival of João Pedro, who has made an impressive start, and Liam Delap.

The Senegal international ultimately became the club’s third-choice forward, which prompted his switch to the Bundesliga.

The 24-year-old joined Bayern on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the move permanent, and while the financial terms were not formally disclosed, the deal is understood to be worth up to €81.5 million.

As has been well doumented, the transfer nearly collapsed in the final days of the window after Delap suffered a hamstring injury in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham, and Chelsea initially withdrew from the agreement.

Jackson, who was already in Munich, urged his representatives to salvage the deal, and by Monday Bayern had agreed to revised terms with a €16.5 million loan fee and a €65 million permanent move due in summer 2026.

Despite Hoeneß’s comments, Matt Law of The Telegraph clarified on the London is Blue Podcast that the claims were incorrect.

He stated that Jackson and his agents gave up around £1.3 million, with a clause linked to 40 appearances, although it remains unclear whether this refers to starts or total appearances.

The striker will also likely face Chelsea again with Bayern Munich in the Champions League group phase, with both clubs drawn together.
