Borussia Dortmund have submitted a fresh offer to Chelsea for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The Bundesliga side’s proposal is understood to be worth €20 million, structured as a loan with an obligation to buy and a significant sell-on clause. Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, with Chukwuemeka reportedly keen on a move to Germany.
Borussia Dortmund have sent new bid to Chelsea for Carney Chukwuemeka. The proposal is worth €20m on loan with obligation to buy plus heavy sell-on clause. Negotiations underway, Carney wants BVB, Romano revealed.
Chukwuemeka, 21, joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022 in a deal worth around £20 million. Despite flashes of his talent, injuries have limited his impact at Stamford Bridge, with the England U21 international making just 21 Premier League appearances over the past two seasons.
A switch to Dortmund could offer the midfielder the regular first-team minutes he craves, following the well-trodden path of young talents who have developed in the Bundesliga before returning to the Premier League as more complete players.
Chelsea and Dortmund have already conducted significant business this summer. The Blues signed Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens in July for £51.5 million on a seven-year contract, underlining the cordial relationship between the two clubs.
Chukwuemeka may not be the only Chelsea player heading to Germany before the transfer window closes.
Christopher Nkunku, who joined from RB Leipzig in 2023 but has struggled for consistent fitness, is also attracting interest from Bundesliga giants and Dortmund’s rival, Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Jackson could also depart after falling down the pecking order following the summer arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
The sale of Chukwuemeka, Nkunku, and Jackson could open up both squad space and financial room for Chelsea to push for the eventual signings of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United later in the window.
