Chelsea to Recall Aaron Anselmino in January

Chelsea are set to bring 19-year-old defender Aaron Anselmino back from his loan at Boca Juniors when the January transfer window opens.

The Argentine was signed by the Blues in August for £15.6m but was immediately loaned back to his former club for further development.

The decision to recall Anselmino comes as manager Enzo Maresca grapples with a series of injuries in the defensive lineup, including long-term absences for Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

While Anselmino could provide much-needed depth, his recent hamstring injury—which sidelined him for Boca’s last five league games—raises questions about his readiness to contribute immediately.

It’s unclear whether Anselmino will stay at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the season or embark on another loan spell. A move to partner club Strasbourg in Ligue 1 has been suggested as a potential next step.

The recall is also a strategic move under new FIFA rules, which restrict clubs to six international loans. By freeing up a loan slot, Chelsea may open the door for other players to gain valuable experience abroad.

One such player is midfielder Cesare Casadei, who has drawn interest from Monza and Feyenoord. A loan deal in January could provide the 21-year-old with consistent game time to accelerate his development.
