Chelsea has proudly announced the signing of England international midfielder Keira Walsh on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Barcelona.
The 27-year-old arrives in London after a successful stint in Spain, where she won two UEFA Women’s Champions League titles and six domestic trophies with Barcelona.
Previously, she enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Manchester City, winning multiple FA Cups, a Women’s Super League title, and the League Cup.
Speaking about her move, Walsh said:
‘It’s unbelievable. I’m very happy to be here and very excited to get started. You look at the history of the trophies Chelsea have won, and I’m an ambitious player, so for me, it is a good fit. I want to play for this club and fight for the badge.’
Head of Women’s Football Paul Green praised Walsh’s qualities, stating:
‘Keira is a composed defensive midfielder with excellent technical attributes and world-class football intelligence. Her ability to dictate the game will be crucial to our plans moving forward.’
Walsh’s international career is equally impressive. Since her senior debut for England in 2017, she has become a pivotal player, helping the Lionesses win the 2022 European Championship and earning Player of the Match honors in the final against Germany.
She was also integral in England’s run to the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.
Chelsea fans will be eager to see Walsh’s impact as she dons the club’s iconic blue, bringing her wealth of experience and winning mentality to the team.
