Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Xavi Simons, attempting to derail Chelsea’s ongoing negotiations with RB Leipzig for the Dutch international.
The 21-year-old, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking midfielders, has attracted growing interest despite only making his move to Leipzig permanent in January following a loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea have made Simons a top priority this summer as the club prepares for potential departures in their attacking ranks, including João Félix and Christopher Nkunku. The Blues are actively looking to refresh their forward options under Enzo Maresca, and Simons’ creativity, technical ability, and positional versatility have made him a leading candidate.
According to multiple reports, Chelsea have already made significant progress in the pursuit of Simons, with personal terms close to being agreed. The player is understood to be open to the move, and discussions between Chelsea and RB Leipzig have entered an advanced stage.
However, Bayern Munich are now attempting to insert themselves into the picture. The German champions have reportedly made enquiries through intermediaries in recent days, seeking to understand the terms of a potential deal. While no formal offer has yet been submitted, Bayern’s interest adds a fresh layer of competition as Chelsea push to finalise the transfer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, stating:
“Chelsea and RB Leipzig continue direct club-to-club talks for Xavi Simons. RB Leipzig are aware of the player being very keen on the move and tempted by Chelsea. Bayern have made calls to be informed this week, but Chelsea remain clear favourites, already in talks and with the player’s green light.”
Chelsea’s pursuit of Simons is part of a wider strategy aimed at building a young, dynamic squad capable of long-term success. Having recently secured a Club World Cup triumph, the club is in a strong financial position and is expected to continue investing in emerging talent. The squad is currently on an extended off-season break, but behind the scenes, the recruitment team remains active.
In addition to Simons, Chelsea are finalising moves for several other high-potential signings, including Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, while the likes of Brazilian forward Estevão Willian from Palmeiras, and winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are also expected to join when preseasaon starts.
