Chelsea vs Brighton
30 August 2026·Premier League
14:00

Venue: Stamford Bridge, London
29/08/2026 9:00 am
📝 Chelsea have agreed a £7.5m fee with Aston Villa for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, with the move expected to be finalised in the coming days. Asked about the goalkeeping situation, Xabi Alonso said: "We are happy with the squad we have. But I have always said that we need to be aware of situations, that there is still this period where we can make decisions. Let's see what happens."
27/08/2026 10:15 pm
📝 Chelsea made it back-to-back wins in midweek, beating Luton Town 2-0 in the Carabao Cup thanks to a Danny Welbeck debut goal and a Hakeem Odoffin own goal, setting up a third-round tie with Leeds United. Attention now turns fully to Brighton and a first home Premier League win of the season.
24/08/2026 10:35 pm
📝 Moisés Caicedo and Marco Palestra both missed the Fulham game with minor knocks picked up in the build-up, and Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on both ahead of the Brighton visit rather than rushing either back before they are ready.
24/08/2026 10:30 pm
📝 Chelsea are up and running. Xabi Alonso got his first competitive game as manager off to a winning start with a 3-2 comeback win at Fulham, João Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer all on the scoresheet. Attention now turns to backing that up with a first home league win of the season against Brighton.
24/08/2026 3:00 pm
📝 This will be Chelsea's first Stamford Bridge league fixture of the season, and a first look at how Alonso's side respond at home to whatever result they get at Craven Cottage on the opening night.
22/08/2026 4:00 pm
📝 Amine Adli is facing several weeks out for Brighton with a calf injury, but Alex Scott is back available and new signings Álvaro Rodriguez and Juanlu are both pushing for involvement early in the season.
21/08/2026 9:00 am
📝 Brighton head into the weekend full of confidence under Fabian Hürzeler, having won four of their last five matches across all competitions, including back-to-back 4-3 wins over Strasbourg and clean sheets against Roma and Bologna in their final two pre-season outings.
20/08/2026 3:00 pm
📝 Wesley Fofana's suspension, picked up for a red card against Sunderland at the end of last season, is not expected to stretch beyond the Fulham game, meaning he should be available for selection again by the time Brighton visit.
19/08/2026 12:00 pm
📝 Return watch: Jordan Henderson has been targeting this game for his first involvement of the season after a wrist injury suffered at the 2026 World Cup. Xabi Alonso has given no guarantees, but 30 August was pencilled in from the start of his recovery programme as a realistic comeback point.
18/08/2026 10:00 am
📝 Chelsea open their Premier League season away at Fulham on Monday night before returning to Stamford Bridge to host Brighton the following Sunday, the Blues' first home league game of the 2026/27 campaign.

Injury News & Team Updates
29/08/2026 12:00 pm
Moisés Caicedo is back in contention after missing the Luton Town game and could be available for selection against Brighton. Marco Palestra remains a doubt and has not been involved in either of Chelsea's last two matches. It also remains to be seen whether new signing Emi Martinez, closing in on a move from Aston Villa, will even be part of the squad this weekend.
24/08/2026 3:20 pm
Brighton are expected to set up in their familiar 4-2-3-1 under Fabian Hürzeler: Bart Verbruggen in goal behind a back four built around Jan Paul van Hecke, with Carlos Baleba and Mats Wieffer or Pascal Groß anchoring midfield, and Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma supporting the front line. Amine Adli (calf) is the one confirmed absentee.
24/08/2026 3:15 pm
Jordan Henderson is in contention for a first involvement of the season, most likely among the substitutes rather than a start. Aaron Anselmino, Emanuel Emegha and Mamadou Sarr remain unavailable through injury. Wesley Fofana is expected to be free of suspension in time for this one.
24/08/2026 10:40 pm
Predicted XI: Alonso has no reason to change a winning side. Expect Robert Sánchez in goal, the back three of Josh Acheampong, Maxence Lacroix and Levi Colwill that started at Fulham, Malo Gusto and Jorrel Hato at wing-back, Romeo Lavia and Reece James central, and Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers behind João Pedro. Moisés Caicedo and Marco Palestra are both doubts after missing out through minor knocks.
