Chelsea women’s head coach Sonia Bompastor has indicated her satisfaction with the team’s impressive start to the new year, praising their creativity and unpredictability on the pitch.
After winning all four matches across competitions in January and holding onto the top spot in the Women’s Super League (WSL), Bompastor expressed pride in the team’s development and performances.
“I’m really pleased with the way we’ve started 2025,” she said. “We’ve won games with strong performances in possession, created a lot of chances, and managed to score regularly while keeping clean sheets.”
One standout factor for Bompastor has been the team’s ability to remain unpredictable.
“What impressed me most is that danger can come from anyone,” she noted. “We have different players who can score, and everyone works for the team and the badge. It’s fantastic to see individuals expressing their talent while maintaining a collective spirit.”
The head coach highlighted emerging partnerships across different areas of the pitch, including the chemistry between Millie Bright and Nat Bjorn in defense, and the midfield connection between Sjoeke Nusken and Erin Cuthbert.
On the flanks, Lucy Bronze and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd on the right, and Niamh Charles and Sandy Baltimore on the left have also impressed.
Bompastor emphasized the depth of quality within the squad, noting her confidence regardless of player selections.
“It’s great that changing players doesn’t affect the team’s performance or results,” she said. “I have several options, like Mayra Ramirez up front or Aggie Beever-Jones in multiple forward roles. These choices give us flexibility depending on the game plan.”
