Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku is set to join AC Milan after the two clubs reached an agreement worth €35 million plus add-ons, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
The Frenchman has also agreed a five-year contract with the Serie A side, finalised yesterday.
The deal brings an end to a long-running transfer saga that saw Nkunku linked with several top clubs throughout the summer.
Former club RB Leipzig showed interest while in talks with Chelsea over Xavi Simons, while Bayern Munich came close after agreeing personal terms.
However, Bayern’s loan proposal was deemed unfavourable by Chelsea, leaving Milan to seize the opportunity.
Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest were also reportedly interested, though their approaches failed to materialise.
Milan’s breakthrough ensures the 26-year-old will continue his career in Italy, with Chelsea prepared to finalise paperwork in the coming days.
Nkunku’s departure also paves the way for Chelsea to accelerate their pursuit of Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, who is currently in London holding talks.
Tottenham Hotspur have recently entered the race, but Simons remains keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023, Nkunku has made 62 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists.
Last season, he featured 43 times across all competitions, netting 14 goals and playing a key role in the Blues’ Club World Cup triumph, appearing in six of their seven matches.
