Chelsea captain Reece James has set his sights on adding even more silverware to the club’s growing trophy cabinet as the Blues prepare for the 2025/26 season.
Speaking at a special trophy presentation held at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, the 25-year-old academy graduate reflected on the progress made and called on fans to stay behind the team in the journey ahead.
This season we’ve taken a big leap in the right direction. It means a lot to me personally. I’ve been here in difficult times, I’ve had struggles myself, so to win these trophies at the end of a tough season means a lot,” James said. “I’d just like to thank you all for your support throughout last season and we’ll need you again going into this season coming up. We hope we can bring some more silverware to you soon.
James’ comments come after Chelsea ended last season on a high, lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League and the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, completing the set of major club honours.
Now under Enzo Maresca’s leadership, the focus is firmly on building from that success and pushing for further glory in domestic and European competitions.
After years plagued by injuries, James took a major step forward last season in his return to fitness, playing a key role in Maresca’s system.
Although questions remain about where exactly the Chelsea boss might deploy him, whether as an inverted midfielder or a traditional flying fullback, a fully fit Reece James will be central to Chelsea’s ambitions this season.
The Blues return to action for the first time since their Club World Cup triumph in the United States with two pre-season friendlies.
They face Bayer Leverkusen on Friday and AC Milan on Sunday in their only tune-up matches ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
